Scientists say that the main reason for subsidence in big cities of China is the continuous exploitation of water from under the ground. In fact, China has developed rapidly in the last few decades. This development increased the population burden on some cities. Due to this, groundwater of these areas was also exploited extensively. Exploitation of groundwater has now become the norm for these cities. If this problem continues like this, then many more cases of land subsidence will come to light in China in the coming times.
There is also a danger of flood
Chinese researchers say that due to climate change, the threat of floods is also increasing in front of the urban population. In fact, while on one hand the sea water level is rising, on the other hand China’s land is continuously sinking. In such a situation, some big cities of China may now be hit by floods. You will be surprised to know that in the year 2020, about 6 percent of China’s area was located at an altitude below sea level. In the coming 100 years, this situation may be in 26 percent of the country’s areas.
